Woods Edge Lavender at King Pine Farms

We began our lavender journey in 2021, planting 75 lavender shrubs. Experimenting and learning about how lavender responds to Minnesota’s northern climate has been a ton of fun. Encouraged by the heartiness of the plants, and the beauty of the flowering stems we continued to expand, and by 2024 we had 470 lavender shrubs in the ground!

In 2025, as we enter our fourth year with lavender we have found that much of our lavender was not able to recover from this winter’s harsh cold.

Unfortunately, we lost about 60% of our lavender plants, and the plants that survived are fragile and focused on regaining strength. While each plant is being carefully tended to as it begins to regrow, they are unlikely to produce very many buds this year. So you won’t see us around the community this year with our lavender.

But we're not giving up!

Plans are underway to replant the most resilient lavender varieties, and we are exploring ideas about new plants that we hope will make the lavender experience even more special. With a bit of patience and ingenuity, we believe this season's challenges will lead to something truly amazing down the road.

So, we will share more as we learn, and hope we have lots to celebrate Summer 2026.
